What Should You Be Doing In 2012?

Back in November, Google made some changes to their web indexing system. Google makes about 500 updates a year, but this update had an effect on about 35% of searches, and became known as the ‘Freshness Update’.

The purpose of this update was to give users much ‘Fresher’ results, meaning sites with newer content, would automatically be ranked higher. However, this doesn’t mean you can just keep making slight changes to existing content; Google is looking for fresh content only...

So, how could you get this new content onto your website easily and regularly? Here are a couple of ideas to get you started...

• Get a Blog. If you have the time, and plenty of things to talk about, then this is the perfect solution. Your Blog is a great opportunity to give users updates as to what’s happening in the company and any industry news that may interest them.

It doesn’t have to be a chore, writing a Blog can be fun... pick something that interests you and you’ll find it a lot easier to talk about. It doesn't have to be a long post, just keep it relevant and interesting.

There's nothing stopping you from duplicating content from your monthly newsletter. Adding it to your Blog means social media can link back to it, helping your content get the highest amount of exposure as possible.

• Testimonials. Take the time to ask your customers for their feedback- even if all you get back is a simple line saying they’d recommend you, it’s all positive. So create a ‘Testimonials’ page on your website and fill it with all of the good comments from your customers.
Not only will this be new content that Google will rank you for, but these testimonials could help you turn more site visitors, into customers. These comments will help boost your credibility, and give prospects more confidence in using your services or buying your products.

Whatever new content you add, don't forget to broadcast it through your social media. Not only does it drive visitors to your website, but it gives you some more of those all important links that Google is also looking for.
